Past Provincial Administrator
East Sepik Province

The PM and Government must have a critical analysis of the East Sepik Provincial Assembly resolution following the assessment of the Environmental Impact Statement analysis. The provincial assembly (Chaired by Governor Allan Bird) resolved to say NO to any development of the Frieda Mine unless and until there is clarity on:

1. The risk to the river system, in particular the proposed risk of the dam,

2. The Assembly questioned the justification of the developer on the justification of confirming a 100 year liability period for itself (the developer) and getting the people and government of PNG to take up the liability should there be any disaster thereafter.

I urge all the leaders of the East Sepik to stand up for the rights that are already expressed in the provincial assembly resolution.

The provincial assembly passed the resolution unanimously.

If there are lawyers or legal entities out there please take this matter up as a serious infringement of the rights of the East Sepik people should anyone decide to develop the mine without answering the critical questions expressed in the Provincial Assembly (The voice of the East Sepik People)

If you have seen and noted experiences on the Fly River and many other mining disasters in the world please share this message.
